Bodily Kinesthetic Learning

At Spruce Elementary, second graders are boosting their literacy skills through a fun and tactile activity—writing high frequency “SNAP” words in shaving cream. This sensory approach helps students build automaticity in reading and writing by engaging their kinesthetic pathways. As they shape each letter, they reinforce memory and fluency, making reading and writing more efficient.

This playful method is just one of many ways to make learning stick. Other ideas include writing in sand, shaping words with playdough, or revealing words with crayon and marker. These hands-on strategies make literacy both effective and fun for our learners.

Whatever you do, whatever you say, think first about the spruce way
